Best Splash Pads and Water Parks Near Montreal

Beat the Heat with Water Fun

Montreal summers can be scorching — when the humidex hits 40°C, every parent needs a water plan. Fortunately, the city and surrounding area offer everything from free splash pads in every neighbourhood to world-class water parks. Here's your complete guide.

Free Splash Pads (Jeux d'eau)

Montreal operates over 200 free splash pads across all boroughs, typically running from mid-June to early September. Here are standout locations:

Parc des Rapides (LaSalle) — One of the best splash pads in the city with multiple water features, adjacent to a beautiful playground and the rapids themselves. Bring a picnic and make a day of it.

Parc Jarry (Villeray) — A large splash pad near the tennis courts with multiple spray features. The surrounding park has plenty of shade trees for parents.

Parc Jean-Drapeau — The island's Aquatic Complex is free for splash pad use and has a wading pool for toddlers. Combined with the beach and playgrounds, this is a full-day water destination.

Parc Marcelin-Wilson (Ahuntsic) — A newer splash pad with modern features and a well-maintained playground right beside it.

To find the splash pad nearest you, check the Montreal city website which maps all locations by borough with operating hours.

Water Parks

Village Vacances Valcartier (Quebec City area, about 2.5 hours from Montreal) is the biggest outdoor water park in the region. Over 35 water slides, a massive wave pool, lazy river, and the "Pirates' Hideout" kids' zone designed for ages 3-8. In summer, the outdoor park is genuinely thrilling. Day passes run about $45-55 for adults and $35-45 for children.

Bora Parc is Valcartier's indoor counterpart, open year-round at a tropical 30°C. Wave pool, water slides, lazy river, and a surf simulator — all indoors. Perfect for a rainy day or a winter escape. Prices are similar to the outdoor park. If driving from Montreal, consider making it a weekend trip and staying at the resort.

Super Aqua Club in Pointe-Calumet (30 minutes from Montreal) is the closest major water park to the city. 25+ slides, a wave pool, and a kids' zone. Day passes are about $35-40 for adults, $28-33 for children. They also have a beach on Lac des Deux Montagnes.

Public Pools

Montreal's public outdoor pools are free and open mid-June through August:

  • Piscine du Parc Laurier — A beautiful outdoor pool in the Plateau
  • Piscine de Verdun — Recently renovated with a great shallow end for kids
  • Parc Jean-Drapeau Aquatic Complex — Olympic-sized outdoor pool with public swim times

Safety Tips

  1. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before water play and reapply every 2 hours
  2. Never leave children unsupervised near water — even in shallow splash pads
  3. Bring water shoes — hot concrete and rough pool decks hurt little feet
  4. Pack lots of water — kids don't realize they're dehydrating while playing in water
  5. Bring a canopy or umbrella — splash pads rarely have shade
