Best Parks and Playgrounds in Montreal by Neighbourhood
Every Neighbourhood Has a Great Park
One of the best things about raising kids in Montreal is the parks. Every neighbourhood has green spaces, playgrounds, and splash pads — many of them recently renovated with modern equipment. Here's our local parent's guide to the standouts.
The Plateau
Parc Jeanne-Mance is the Plateau's backyard. Adjacent to Mount Royal, this sprawling park has tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a large playground with modern equipment, and plenty of open space for soccer and frisbee. The playground was recently renovated with inclusive design features. The Sunday afternoon tam-tams (drum circles) at the base of the mountain are a Montreal tradition that kids love.
Parc Laurier — A local favourite with an excellent playground for toddlers and older kids, a splash pad in summer, and a skating rink in winter. The Friday evening vibe in summer — parents with wine, kids running free — is peak Montreal parenting.
Rosemont & Petite-Patrie
Parc Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier got a major renovation in recent years and now features one of the best playgrounds on the island. The modern play structures include a climbing wall, zip line, and accessible swings. There's also a pool, community garden, and a beautiful shaded picnic area. This park alone is worth moving to Rosemont for.
Verdun & LaSalle
Parc Arthur-Therrien — Verdun's massive waterfront park along the St. Lawrence. The playground is excellent, and the riverside path is perfect for family bike rides. In summer, the beach at nearby Verdun Beach is the only natural urban beach in Montreal.
Southwest (Saint-Henri, Pointe-Saint-Charles)
Parc Angrignon is one of Montreal's largest parks with extensive trails, a duck pond, and multiple playgrounds. It feels like leaving the city entirely. The toboggan hill in winter is one of the best on the island. Take the green line metro directly to the park — it's at the Angrignon terminus.
Villeray & Ahuntsic
Jarry Park is a Villeray institution with a massive playground, outdoor pool, tennis courts, and soccer fields. The IGA Stadium next door hosts professional tennis every August. The playground is one of the largest in the city with equipment for ages 1-12.
The West Island
Parc Terra-Cotta in Pointe-Claire features a beautiful nature trail, playground, and community farm. It's a hidden gem that many Montrealers don't know about.
